Does it feel like your business stands out above the noise or does it simply blend in? If your business is not standing out among the other businesses, that is because it is not unique enough. You have to stop doing what everyone else is doing and get your creative juices flowing! In this article, I’m going to show you how to do just that.
Things I Can Do to Make My Business Unique:
- Branded items
- Uncommon brand colors & combinations
- Custom logo
- Old School Marketing Tactics
- Loyalty & Rewards Program
In the following sections, I will give you some amazing ideas and examples for each item on the list. So keep reading!
Branded Items
One amazing way to make your business unique is to invest in branded items. What this means for your business is going to be different from every other business. Some things that you can brand regardless of what business you are in are:
- Business Cards
- Thank You Cards
- Packaging including tape
- Clothing
- Tags (for clothing and wigs)
- Neck labels (for tshirts)
- And anything else you can think of!
There also may be other things you can brand based on your business in particular. Brainstorm a list of ideas and see which ones make the most sense for your business.
Uncommon Brand Colors & Combinations
Another way to make your business unique is to choose uncommon brand colors and combinations. Everybody uses the same colors and combinations over and over again. I have seen this a lot with boutiques and ecommerce businesses in general. A lot of females are using light pink and white or hot pink and black as their brand colors.
Using the same colors as everyone else does not help you stand out. It helps you to blend in. So if that is your goal, to blend in, then great job. Now, I like the color pink and in no way am I hating on it. But someone had to say it. Pink is not the only color that exists for female stores. Let’s just put that out there.
The colors you choose really depends on your business feel. If you are going for a playful look and feel you could try brighter colors like orange and blue or if you are going for a more classy and laid back look you could choose red and black as your main brand colors.
Get creative! Do not place yourself in a little box with everyone else that is choosing not to be different. People will remember you better when you stand out.
Custom Logo
Your logo should be just as unique as you are. Don’t just put words on a glittery background and smack a crown on top of the letters. While that sounds like a really cute logo, so many people are using glitter backgrounds and crowns that it would not be unique.
I’m not saying you can’t use glitter backgrounds and crowns but don’t just leave it at that. Instead of a silver or gold glitter background, try purple or blue glitter. Instead of just a crown, include a crown with jewels on it.
This may not seem like big changes, but they can make the biggest difference when it comes to helping you standout. You don’t have to follow my advice on this but you can think of your own ways to make your business unique.
Old School Marketing Tactics
This is something that I was guilty of forgetting until it was brought to my attention. When promoting your business, social media is great, paid advertising is okay, and so is whatever else you choose to use. But what about those “old school” marketing tactics. Some people call them old fashioned or outdated but I strongly disagree.
It is okay that many people feel this way about hanging flyers, making business cards, telling people about your business and having it spread through word of mouth, billboards, etc. Because that gives you the edge over every other business that is neglecting these forms of marketing. You have the unique advantage if you choose to jump at the opportunity.
I do it for my own business. I make flyers, business cards and I hand them out. I also plan to invest in newspaper ads, signs, and posters and place them wherever I can.
Loyalty & Rewards Program
The last way I think you can make your business unique is to invest in a loyalty and rewards program for your customers. This will encourage your customers to come back and shop with you. And I’m not just talking about a thank you card with a 10% off coupon code. Those are amazing and work wonders but again, everyone is doing that.
How many small ecommerce stores do you know that have loyalty or rewards programs. I can guarantee you not many. This is something you can do to really stand out from the crowd.
Final Takeaway
I really hope these ideas were helpful for you and that you now feel confident in making your business stand out from all the noise. If you want a unique business you can certainly create one. It is not going to happen overnight but it doesn’t have to be stressful. Take your time and think it out. Brainstorm how you plan to stand out or be unique in your business and just go for it!
