There’s this one thing on Etsy that can make you thousands of dollars in passive income every month if you choose to sell it. I know you’re curious to know what that one thing is. Drum roll, please! PRINTABLES. That’s right, today we’ll be discussing printables and how you can make money selling printables on Etsy.
What Printables Sell Best On Etsy?
There are a ton of different printables you can make and sell on Etsy. But the ones that I think sell the best are different kinds of planners, templates of all sorts, and stickers.
There are a variety of planners you can make to sell on Etsy. I would like to highlight the Planner Mom Company Etsy shop by owner Nichole. She makes all sorts of planners that can really come in handy.
Not only are her planners helpful but they are pretty and appealing to the eyes. This is a plus.
Oh and her prices are amazing! I am in no way affiliated with this company but I just admire the work she does. So I thought it deserved a mention while we’re on the topic.
As of today, Nichole has made 61,420 sales and has a 5-star rating. This speaks to how well her printable planners and organization tools are selling. Pretty well indeed!
I want to use some of her planners to show you the different kind of planners that are out there.
Student Planners

As you can see, this is a pretty blush pink student planner. It is loaded with a ton of helpful guides for students. What is even better is that it is good for both high school and college students.
I have been meaning to invest in one of these student planners myself. As I am a college student who needs to get more organized.
She actually has about 6 student planners, all with different pretty designs. Her planners are very feminine looking so I think her target audience may be women in particular and that’s okay.
Meal Planners

Meal planners are really easy to make. People love meal planners especially those who like to meal prep. Or even those who love to try new recipes.
Cleaning Planners

You definitely could create a cleaning planner. A lot of people could use the guidance that a cleaning planner provides.
Every tried to do a deep cleaning of your home only to remember you forgot something. With this cleaning planner you can create a checklist of everything that needs to be done.
Fitness Planner

If you think fitness planners don’t do well, think again. A lot of people want to lose weight or live healthier lives so they turn to exercise.
Truth is, a lot of people also don’t know how to stay organized when it comes to their fitness routine. This fitness planner will really help them to do exactly that.
Finance Planner

People love money and so tracking their money is important. There are people who live on a budget that would really appreciate this finance planner. Even those who have savings goals can benefit from this planner.
Now that you know what kind of things sell best on Etsy, we’ll move on to how to create printables to sell on Etsy.
How to Create Printables to Sell on Etsy?
I am going to show you how to create printables to sell on Etsy using Canva. I do not have much experience using anything but Canva. I’ve tried InDesign and Powerpoint but I still prefer Canva.
So Canva is really great and easy to use. I love it!
Now, that we have that out of the way, I am going to walk you through the steps of creating a chore chart. This is the simplest printable that I can think of to make quickly.
1. Open Canva and Set Dimensions
We are going to be making a basic printable chore chart for kids. The chore chart is going to be 10×8 in. So this is what you would enter into Canva.

Once you have entered the dimensions you will get something like this.

2. Title Your Work
It is important that you title your work. It should be a descriptive title. Or something that directly relates to the product you are making in order to help you find the printable later.
So for example, if you are making a chore chart for girls you could name it that. Chore Chart for Girls. You’ll see I put this exact title for the sample chore chart that I am making.

3. Add a Background
It is now time to start actually designing our chore chart. As I mentioned, this is going to be a chore chart for girls so it’ll have a playful yet feminine look to it.
This is what our background looks like.

4. Add a Square
Now you need to add a light-colored square or rectangle. This is where you’re going to add your lines and words for the chore chart.
You’re going to go to the menu on the left side of the screen and click on elements. Next, you want to find a square shape.
Go to lines and shapes and look for a solid square and select it. Now you want to go to the color changer at the top of the screen and turn the background white or a very light color that matches your background theme.
For this example, I am going to choose a simple white box. I don’t want to have too much going on in this chart. Nor do I want to make it hard to see the words.

I’m going to adjust this box until it looks the way I want it to.
5. Add Lines and Text
Once you have the box adjusted the way you would like, you should start adding the lines and text. You can start by putting a title on your chart. I’m going to use my grandma’s name for my chart. Name yours whatever you like, this is only for display purposes.
If you aren’t doing a template where people can go in and change the name I wouldn’t use a real name. I would simply call it something like “Chore Chart” or “Chores”.
Then I will go on to add chores for one box or column and the days of the week for the next seven columns.
It is good if you make the chore column wider so the parent can have more room to write in the different chores. You only really need a small space for the days of the week to check off when each chore is done.
You can fill in some of the spaces with sample chores to showcase how everything works but I would include a file where these boxes are empty or at least can be changed if using a template.
My completed sample chore chart is pictured down below. It’s cute and very simple. A little girl would love this chart.
If I can design printables using Canva you can too. So try your hand at it!
I like this chart so much I may actually sell this in my Etsy shop.
I created this sample just to show you how simple the process can be. You can make your printables as simple or detailed as you want to. This may actually be too simple for some but I’m okay with it. It’s not perfect but it certainly works for me and I truly think it would sell well.

How to Create Printables that Actually Sell?
Do your research. I always say this because it is a tried and true method of learning pretty much anything. If you know nothing about something the best thing you can do is research it. The same rule applies here.
If you want to create printables that sell well on Etsy, you should do a lot of research on Etsy, Etsy trends, and printables.
You can easily go to Google or Youtube and type in questions you may have about creating printables and selling them on Etsy. I can almost guarantee you that you will find an answer in one or more of the places I mentioned.
Also, take some time to look through Etsy for printables and shops that sell printables. You can sometimes tell what sells well just by looking at a shop that sells certain types of printables and their sales history. Pay attention to shops that have a 5-star rating on their printable items.
This could mean that not only are these printables selling well but people are loving them also.
One thing I will say about doing research on Etsy itself is that you could see a shop that does really well and be tempted to copy. Please, please, please do not do this.
People who create printables more than likely put in a lot of time and effort to make their product unique so that it would stand out from the crowd. It would be wrong to steal someone else’s design.
However, I do think it is okay to use someone else’s design as inspiration but again do not copy.
Customers will want to shop with you when they see that you have something worth buying. You can be different but still, create helpful items that people will want to purchase.
How Much Can I Make Selling Printables on Etsy?
Realistically, you can make hundreds, possibly even thousands a month selling printables on Etsy. You could even make up to six figures selling printables but it is not going to happen overnight. And it won’t be easy.
The sky is truly the limit. Realize that you aren’t going to get rich overnight selling printables on Etsy but you may make enough to pay your bills and live a comfortable life.
How much you are able to make selling printables on Etsy depends a lot on you. As with anything worth having, you have to work for it. Put in a lot of hard work and be consistent and you’ll see some good results.
